¿Did you know that sand dunes can play acoustic music?

Sand dunes have been widely studied over the time and from many points of view (e.g. ecology, geomorphology, physical dynamics, etc.). But it seems to be that dunes, as an incredible places that they are, have more surprises to give us. So,  ¿Did you know that sand dunes can play acoustic music? You got surprised, isn't it? So this is about what some researchers are working.

It is called "booming sand". At the beginning the thought was that the sound coming from de dunes in some places over the world responded to the wind action, but after some scientific measurements it seems to be that the responsible of that kind of acoustic music is the sand by itself.  I found a video that I would like to share with you which reflects the work carried out by a research team from California Institute of Technology. Their work deals to better understand the origin and the causes of this phenomenon. I hope you enjoy it as I did!
